Monitoring Program
The following pages describe EFCI's program to monitor surface and groundwater quality and
quantity, mine inflows, and pond discharges during active mining operations and the
postmining reclamation period. Hydrologic monitoring has been ongoing for 13 years
following mine closure and reclamation. The monitoring program served as an integral part of
EFCPs efforts to protect the hydrologic balance by providing an accurate and timely method
of. identifying and quantifying any possible concerns with respect to surface and groundwater
resources.
Approval of Technical Revision No. 43 (TR43) terminated the surface and groundwater
monitoring program at the Southfield Mine, excepting pond discharges. In consequence, all
reporting of applicable quality and quantity data, including the Annual Hydrology Report, is
no longer required.
Two sediment ponds, Pond 4 and Pond 5, remain at the mine site. Both are constructed and
approved as permanent "stock tanks" by the Division of Water Resources. Discharge
monitoring of these ponds will continue as required by applicable NPDES permits until final
bond release is approved by the DRMS for each of the ponds.
TR43 2.05.6-51a Revised 8/25/15
