King Coal Mine (C-1981-035)
TR -25 Adequacy Review 41 Response
4. The sediment cleanout level of 7229.25 ft. called out in the Executive Summary of Appendix 11 (1)
changed to 7231.67 ft. as per Map King II 007. Please update the Executive Summary to
reflect changes to:
a. Maximum sediment level and its acre feet of storage capacity
b. Sediment clean out level and associated acre feet of storage capacity.
These levels and capacities have been added to Map Kina II -007A.
S. Please address La Plata County concerns (letter enclosed) expressed in their 24 July
letter to DDRMS regarding:
a. Sediment removal from pond at 60 % of max level, (update executive summary)
b. Disposal and handling methods of sediment removed from pond.
Sediment removed from the pond is transported by truck to the refuse pile at the Kina I
mine site, spread and compacted in lifts not to exceed 24 inches.
Rule: 2.10 Maps and Plans
To adequately meet the requirements of this Rule please provide the following map updates.
Maps General
9. Regarding the three maps (007A, 0076 and 007C) provided with the application; please update
each of these maps to include the following information:
a. Call out the contour interval (e.g. Contour interval is 2').
The contour interval has been added as reauested.
b. Scale: 1:1200 (or whatever it is).
10. Please explain why survey coordinate points are called out on the right side of each
map. I don't see these items located on the map
The survey coordinates shown have been removed; they were not relevant to these maps.
Map Kina II 007A
11. There is a great deal of visual information on this map. Generally a map should not have more
than 7 separate layers on it, more than that is too much information. To make it legible and
easier to use please make the following changes:
a. Please orient all text horizontal from left to right, eliminate upside down, sideways
etc. text.
Where practical, all text has been reoriented horizontally
b. All elevation values should read from left to right with map facing up. Maybe
offset them from each other a bit.
Elevation values, where practical, now read from riaht to left with the map facing up.
c. Make sure text is not obscured and under other layers
Text has been arranged so as to not be obscured under other layers.
d. Please remove the crosshatching for the basins, but keep outline colors for each
basin (maybe with a thick line, and do also keep the directional flow arrows).
The crosshatchina has been removed and the lines are thicker as requested.
e. Please indicate acreage for each basin (use one font color for all acreage, e.g. dark
blue), or on the map provide a table indicating each basins area.
Acreage has been indicated on the map in one font color.
f. Please remove symbology from the map that is not pertinent to the map (dots at
right edge of map, red line with x's, green curly que lines, etc.). This map focuses
on hydrology.
Symbology not pertinent to hydrology has been removed.
g. Symbolize any natural streams
Natural streams have been symbolized in the leaend.
