October 19, 2015 C-2009-087/Peabody Sage Creek Mine JLE
The mine is currently idle. The coal stockpiles appear stable.
OTHER (SPECIFY):
Several maintenance items were noted in previous Division inspections. The status of these items are discussed
below:
• The riprap along the SIIPM-6 drainage has slid off of the erosion control matting at several locations
along the drainage. PSCM will need to replace the riprap on these areas.
o This item remains outstanding.
• Smart ditches have been installed in drainages FA -D5 and FA -D6. The Division has observed some
undercutting of these ditches and/or animals have burrowed under the ditches near the northwest end of
the ditches.
o PSCM has attempted to repair portions of these ditches and have filled in several areas where the
damage has occurred. However, there are areas where the repairs have not occurred. Mr.
Cowman indicated he would have a crew come out and continue the repairs of these ditches. This
item remains outstanding.
• Culvert 59A's outlet (Old Shop area on SE end) is 1/2 full of sediment and should be cleaned out.
o This item remains outstanding and needs to be addressed.
• PSCM will need to add a few disturbance boundary markers on the southern and eastern boundary so that
each marker can be seen line of site from one marker to the next.
o According to Mr. Cowman, he has acquired more disturbance boundary markers and the
equipment he needs to install more markers. This item remains outstanding.
REVEGETATION — Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover; Timing:
The revegetated old bone yard area is stable.
SUBSIDENCE — Rule 4.20:
The mine is idle.
SLIDES and DAMAGE - Rule 4.12:
The slump observed above the portals does not appear to have changed significantly.
SUPPORT FACILITIES - Rule 4.04:
The old shop area, main office area, equipment laydown area, portal area, and the facility/storage benches above
the portal area were observed and no problems were noted. The ditches and culverts around the area appear to be
maintained and functional.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 4 of 7
