the CBT waters from the western slope. We will continue to monitor and treat as it appears.
Downy Brome (cheat grass): We have been treating for cheat grass on this site for over 10 years. This is
the only noxious weed specifically called out in the DRMS 2010 Inspection Report. Cheat grass was
almost completely gone on this property. There are a few spots that have returned. The best control of
cheat grass is to have an established desirable grass. In the areas that cheat grass is still growing, we will
apply Plateau at 4oz to the acre this November. This will allow for reseeding in the spring. This follows
the treatment plan we have established in the past, and should continue to slowly eliminate the cheat
grass. Removal of cheat grass can take several years in that the seed bank is so great and we are an arid
climate where competitive grasses can be affected by weather.
Mowing — Consistent mowing is also effective in keeping weeds under control. 2015 was unique in that
the rain continued well in to July preventing access to sites for mowing and for spraying weeds in the
early summer. High demand from oil production and backlogs for equipment needed to mow large
acreages then made it difficult for mowing to occur prior to September. It is recommended that LRM
mow problem areas and newly reclaimed areas at least two times per growing season to help eliminate
weeds and establish new grass.
Weed Control Time Line for 2015 and 2016
Russian Olives
Knapweed
Thistle
CheatGrasss
Mowing
Whitetop
Willows/saltCedar
Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct
Cut and treat
stumps with Habitat
W/Milestone
Plateau
Mow as needed
Telar
With
Habitat
Please let me know if you have any questions.
James Johnson
Colorado Department of Agriculture License #1326; 103,107,109,206
