Chris Gilbreath
Page 2
October 14, 2014
Please discuss these apparent impacts of the Colowyo Mine on water quality in the receiving waters in the
context of the Probable Hydrologic Consequences within the Colowyo PAP and in light of the following.
High TDS values can cause a decrease in the water's usefulness for agriculture purposes. This has been
widely documented (for example, see the OSM report `Alluvial Valley Floor Identification and Study
Guidelines, " 1983). Some recorded sulfate values within the 2013 and 2014 data are higher than the
domestic drinking water standard (250 mg/1), especially at the downgradient wells.
It may be useful to analyze the data while accounting for seasonal fluctuations. Let me know if you have
any comments and/or questions (ext. 8113, rob zuber@state.co.us).
Sincerely,
Robert Zuber, P.E.
Environmental Protection Specialist
