and woody plant densities. These data were included in a report entitled "Energy Fuels Coal,
Inc. - Southfield Mine - 1997 Reclamation Monitoring Report. Plant cover data were collected
using the point intercept method and forage production measurements were taken by plant
species including annuals and shrubs. Woody plant density was sampled using 100 square
meter belt transects.
In 1991, interim reclamation monitoring was performed by IME on areas of the Refuse Pile
reclaimed in 1983 and 1987. Data were collected for the parameters of plant cover, forage
production and woody plant densities. These data were included in a report entitled "Energy
Fuels Coal, Inc. - Southfield Mine - 1991 Reclamation Monitoring Report. Plant cover data
were collected using the point intercept method and forage production measurements were
taken by plant species including annuals and shrubs. Woody plant density was sampled using
100 square meter belt transects.
Interim reclamation monitoring was performed by IME in 1989 pertaining to the Refuse Pile
areas reclaimed in 1981 and 1987. Data were collected for the parameters of plant cover,
forage production and woody plant densities. These data were included in a report entitled
"Energy Fuels Coal, Inc. - Southfield Mine - 1989 Reclamation Monitoring Report. Plant
cover data were collected using the point intercept method and forage production
measurements were taken by plant species including annuals and shrubs. Woody plant density
was sampled using 100 square meter belt transects.
In 1987, IME sampled areas pertaining to the 1984 Refuse Pile reclaimed area and the
Grassland or Refuse Pile Reference Area. Data were collected for the parameters of plant
cover, forage production and woody plant densities. These data were included in a report
entitled "Energy Fuels Coal, Inc. - Southfield Mine - 1987 Reclamation Monitoring Report.
Plant cover data were collected using the point intercept method and forage production
measurements were taken by plant species including annuals and shrubs. The Refuse Pile Reclamation was
sampled on September 9-11, 2014 The New Portal Reference Area was sampled on September
6 - 7, 2014. The Vento Portal Reclamation was sampled between July 27-29, 2014 and
September 9 - 10, 2014. The Old Portal Reference Area and the Corley Reclamation were
sampled during the last week of July and first week of August 2014. The field sampling of the
Loadout Reference Area occurred on August 26-28, 2014 and the Loadout Reclamation was
sampled on August 29 - 31 and September 11, 2014.
At the time of the field sampling, all of the plants were actively growing and it is believed that
the sampling was performed close to the period of optimum plant growth, when the plant cover
and forage production were near their peak. A total of 108 different plant species were either
encountered or observed in sampling of the 157 cover transects, 211 forage production and 151
