19
Creek, 1003 for Fish Creek and 69 for Trout Creek indicate
average TDS levels (mg/L) of 1013.66, 661.32 and 467.01
respectively.
Trace Metals:
Iron(Trec) was noted to have exceeded the instream numeric
standards for several monitoring sites noted in item no. 12
above. Page 2.05-157 of the permit indicates several ambient
water levels have trace metal concentrations above the stream
standards and that exceedances in iron are not attributed to
the mining operation. Page 37 of Exhibit 32 indicates, "the
most notable example of ambient conditions exceeding an
applicable stream standard occurred in the case of total iron
concentration, where the standard of 1.0 mg/l was less than
the average iron concentrations for 11 of the 15 sites. For all
15 sites, the total iron standard was less than the maximum
reported iron concentration depicting ambient conditions."
TC will need to address the following item:
For the lower reaches of Middle, Fish and Trout Creek,
the projected average conductivity, sulfate and TDS levels
for 2009 to 2015 contained in Exhibit 32 do not appear to
be reflective of the average levels reported in the 2014
AHR. The averages reported for these parameters exceed
the average projected amounts. TC will need to evaluate
these constituents and update the PHC accordingly and
access the negative impacts of these elevated constituent
levels.
Ground Water
Wadge Overburden
Elevated conductivity, pH, and manganese levels were noted
at the monitoring wells for the Wadge Overburden.
According to TC, no anomalous water quality impacts
attributable to mining were evident in data collected from the
Wadge overburden wells during 2014, as compared to
historical results.
19
