• 2.7 HYDROLOGY
The Trapper mine site is located on the north -facing slope of the Williams Fork Mountains within
the Yampa River basin in northwestern Colorado (see Map M52). The Yampa River basin,
including the Little Snake River sub -basin, is part of the Green River basin (Figure 2.7-1). The
Green River is a tributary of the Colorado River. The crest of the Williams Fork Mountains forms
the drainage divide between the main stem of the Yampa River and a major Yampa River
tributary, the Williams Fork River. The tributaries on the north face of the mountains which will be
impacted due to mining include Flume, Pyeatt, Johnson, No Name , Coyote and Buzzard
Gulches. Although mining is not planned south of the mountain crest, parts of the following
Williams Fork River tributaries drainage basins lie within the mine plan area: Deal, Horse, Castor
and Ute Gulches, and three small gulches known as, Deer, Elk and Small Gulches.
2.7.1 Topography and Geologic Setting
The Trapper Mine is located in a complex geological setting. Past depositional processes formed
discontinuous lenticular beds with variable lilhology which have been subsequently affected by
tectonic activity. The geology along with topography of the site determines the ground -water
• regime of the area.
2-346
