Technical Revision
Boettcher Sand Stone Quarry
Permit No. M-1977 - 345
Holcim respectfully submits a Technical Revision for the Boettcher Sandstone Quarry,
Permit No M-1977-345
The property was permitted in 1977 and was quarried intermittently since then. The
quarry was never mined to the full extent and as a result it was partially reclaimed on
the south side. As the Fort Collins Plant was shut down in 2002, the operation at the
Boettcher Sand Stone Quarry had not resumed. Since then, Holcim tried to sell their
rights for the mineral and mining of the deposit, but was unsuccessful and has now
decided to conduct final reclamation at the site.
The technical revision is in regards to the reclamation concept. As the deposit was fully
mines, the reclamation concept in the existing permit cannot be completed as permitted.
Holcim (US) Inc. respectfully submits a new concept in which the area where there is a
a high wall — all loose and available material within the disturbed area will be pushed in
such a manner to reduce the exposed quarry wall in a manner to provide stability. It is
noted that there is insufficient loose material to complete a slope of 31-1: 1V and will
result in a steeper slope angle than anticipated. The concept is shown in the attached
drawing — Reclamation Concept — Boettcher Sand Stone Quarry. Once sloped the area
will be topsoiled (if available) and seeded.
It should also be noted that natural vegetation has taken place over the years in the
disturbed area and Holcim will take all care to minimize impact on what vegetation
exists.
The proposed seed mixture is aligned with the recommended seed mixture from
Larimer County for Area 11 — Foothills.
