KVAl1V1VS <br />This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division <br />ut Reclamation Mining and Satety. The Eureka Pit is a 110c upCration lu;.'ated approximately eight miles <br />Northeast uf Silvertun on county Rod Z near 99UU Ft in elevation. The site consists of three permitted acres <br />on the Forth side of County Road 2. The site was nut active during the time of the inspection, and in addition <br />to the inspectors listed above, no Operator representatives Were present during the inspectiun. Five photos <br />accompany this report to illustrate the current site conditions. <br />According to tRe annual reports provided by the Operator the site is no longer active, however is still used as a <br />stockpiling and pruccssing area. Proper signage was observed at the entrance to the site and as seen in Phutco <br />une, the boundaries are clearly marked with boulders and t -posts. Several small stuLkpiles are located within <br />the permit ared, as well as a portable grizzly screen as seen in Photos Two and Three. <br />Portions of the site have begun to revegetate with voluntcCr trees, shrubs and various grasses. No noxious <br />weeds were ubserved during this inspection. There is a small ditch that runs through the Lcnter of the site <br />towards the county road that was ICft undisturbed during the mining process. However as seen in Photo Four, <br />as considerable amount of trash and debris has been thrown inti the ditch. 1 he trasR and debris includes <br />metal and FIDPE culverts of various sizes and other random trash. . Neither the mining nor raLlamatiun plans <br />outline the storage of trash and various cother debris. 1 herefure to avoid tutu re problems/possible violations <br />the uperatur is encouraged to remove the trash and debris from the ditch as well as the rest of tRe site <br />During the Division's inspection of a nearby permitted site, Steve Fearn, of Fearn Engineering Services <br />discussed the possible need tur permitting actions of a river cleanup adjacent tu the Eureka u, avel pit in tRe <br />Animas River. It is the understanding uf the Divisiun that materials will be excavated trom the river <br />approximately located at the area in Photo Five, processed and stockpiled within the permitted area and used <br />as road material by San Juan county. IDIr. Fearn also discussed that he was already in cuntact with the u5 <br />Army Corps of Engineers about the issue and they are of the opinion that the activities will not require a <br />permit thruugh the Corps. It the Operator or his contractor can provide written documentation that no corps <br />of Engineers permit will be required, as well as an in depth plan or description of the activities, it is the <br />position of the Division that no alteratiun nor technical revision to the existing permit will Be necessary. <br />However all documentation of discussed activities must be submitted to the Divisiun prior to tRe tact. <br />No problems or possible violations were observed at this time.
