PERMIT #: M-2011-033
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: PSH
INSPECTION DATE: September 17, 2015
OBSERVATIONS
The Corkle Construction Pit #2 was inspected by Peter Hays with the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety (Division/DRMS) as part of the Division's monitoring inspection program. Mr. Hughie Corkle with Corkle
Construction was present during the inspection. An entrance sign was posted and the permit boundaries were
delineated by fence on all sides as required by Rule 3.1.12.
The site is permitted for 3.84 acres as a reclamation -only permit. The permit was issued by the Division on
March 5, 2012. The approved post mining land use for the site is rangeland. The Division holds a financial
warranty in the amount of $5,000.00, which appeared adequate to complete reclamation.
The Operator has seeded the site twice a year for the past 3 years. The reclamation vegetation is establishing
well and several varieties of wheatgrass were observed. Several patches of Canada thistle, a List B noxious
weed, were observed on site. The present amount of the noxious weeds would prevent the site from being
released. The Operator stated there has been too much rainfall recently to spray the weeds. The Division
recommends the Operator treats the Canada thistle to control the spread of the weed and reseed the site this
fall to promote additional establishment of grasses. The Division will plan to inspect the site in the spring of
2016 to evaluate the site for potential final release.
Photographs taken during the inspection are attached.
Mr. Corkle called the Division following the inspection to confirm he had contacted his weed control company
regarding the Canada thistle at the site.
Inspection Contact Address
Mr. Hughie Corkle
Corkle Construction
34612 Hwy. 14
Walden, CO 80480
Cc: Wally Erickson; DRMS
