PERMIT #: M-1998-019
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: PSH
INSPECTION DATE: September 16, 2015
OBSERVATIONS
The Grand Gravel Pit was inspected by Peter Hays with the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division/DRMS) as part of the Division's monitoring inspection program. Mr. Richard Curry, Mrs. Marilyn
Curry and Mr. Bud Carpenter with Grand Gravel were present during the inspection. The site was previously
inspected by the Division on July 28, 2011.
The Division currently holds a financial warranty in the amount of $29,333, which is adequate to reclaim the
site based on this inspection.
The site is permitted for 19.37 acres. The site was inactive during this inspection. The site was mostly
unchanged from the last inspection. Evidence of recent material removal was observed from several
stockpiles. The asphalt recycling plant has been removed from the northern portion of the site. Stockpiles of
uncrushed asphalt remain on site. The asphalt recycling plant will be brought back in once enough asphalt is
stockpiled according to the Operator. The middle of the site contained the scale and product stockpiles. The
southern portion of the site contained product stockpiles and the mining highwall. Mining activities are
progressing to the southwest. The highwall was approximately 15' high. The pit floor varies from between 12
to 18 feet deep based on the elevation of the clay seam. No fuel was stored on site. The pit floor was dry and
no erosion features were observed.
The approved post mining land use for the site is rangeland. No recent reclamation activities were observed.
The Operator plans to begin reclaiming the eastern boundary highwalls as the existing stockpiles are removed
and space is available to perform reclamation activities. A large, well -vegetated stockpile of topsoil was
located in the middle of the site along the west side. Additional, smaller stockpiles of topsoil were observed
throughout the site. No noxious weeds were observed during the inspection.
The mine sign and permit boundary markers were observed, as required by Rule 3.1.12. The south and east
permit boundaries are delineated by a fence and the west and north boundaries are delineated by steel posts.
All mining disturbances were contained within the permit boundaries.
Photographs taken during the inspection are attached. No problems were noted during the inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Mr. Richard Curry
Grand Gravel
1167 County Road 2
Kremmling, CO 80459
Cc: Wally Erickson, DRMS
