AM W COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
September 16, 2015
William A. Box 483
Paonia, CO 81428
RE: Bowie No. 2 Mine (Permit No. C-1996-083)
2014 Bi -Annual (2nd Half 2014) Subsidence Report Review
Dear Mr. Bear,
The Division has completed its review of the above referenced report received on 06 March
2015 via email. The Division finds the 2014 Bi -Annual (2nd Half 2014) Subsidence Report
fulfills the 2014 requirement to file an bi-annual report detailing the results of the subsidence
monitoring programs and the results of the visual inspections of known modern and historic
landslides within the permit and adjacent area for stability in June and December of each year.
The Division has the following comments:
1. Based on a visual inspection of all known hisoric and modern landslides, no new cracks
were observed over panel B-15 or within the location of the initation of panel B-16.
2. During the 211 half of 2014 pond and spring 23 was potentially mpacted by the mining in
Panel B-15. Based on observations, no influence to any monitoring point was impacted
during the period.
3. Subsidence monitoring stations surveyed during the reporting period identified no
significant change to any location; with the exception of Stations PL -11 and PL- 12 with
showed changes of -0.10' and -0.11' for the period respectively.
4. It would be beneficial, in the graphical information for the monitoring sites, to include
a point along the sample date axis indicating the changeover from baseline to
operational data.
Based on the information submitted, the Division finds that the data submitted reflect the
subsidence due to mining is less than the predicted magnitudes for longwall mining.
OF COlO
nO
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http://mining.state.co.us
John W.
