PERMIT#: M-2001-054
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: WHE
INSPECTION DATE: August 5, 2014
This inspection occurred as part of the Division's routine monitoring plan of permitted operations. The
Bridalveil Pit is approved for 3.64 acres affected lands for the extraction and processing of construction
materials. Affected lands are located entirely within the alluvial fan for Bridalveil Creek. Affected lands will be
reclaimed to support industrial/commercial post -mining land use. The Division holds $8,293 financial
warranty. This report is accompanied by four photographs taken during the inspection.
The Operator has removed all mine -related equipment and debris with the exception of one backhoe and one
tracked excavator, both in working condition. The stormwater ditch and sediment trap appeared to be
functioning as designed. The ditch was flowing in response to recent precipitation and the sediment trap was
detaining drainage, nearly at capacity. The sediment trap was discharging through its rock filter spillway.
Upslope areas of the affected lands had been graded to approximate 3H:1V slope. Slopes for the lower bench
area approximated 1.5H:1V slope. Vegetative cover consisted of tree seedlings, primarily pine, fir and spruce,
which were establishing throughout the 3H:1V areas.
Outstanding reclamation tasks include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
• Grading per the approved reclamation plan;
• Replacement of vegetative growth medium per the approved reclamation plan;
• Establishment of an appropriate and stabilizing vegetative cover per the approved reclamation plan;
• Maintenance to the stormwater control structures, as necessary to ensure appropriate capacity,
stability and continued function in accordance with the approved designs (currently accomplished).
On-site discussions included a potential Technical Revision intended to update the existing reclamation
whereby final reclamation can be achieved and the permit terminated. The Technical Reivision would address
final grading to more closely reflect current conditions, establishment of a vegetative cover composed of tree
seedlings and/or shrubs as opposed to grass, and the elimination of topsoil replacement. Elimination of the
topsoil replacement appears appropriate because there was no topsoil for salvage (active alluvial fan) and
thereby no is topsoil available for reclamation purposes.
If the plans submitted through the Technical Revision alter any conditions illustrated on the previously
approved reclamation map, the Technical Revision shall be accompanied by an updated reclamation map,
completed in accordance with the applicable requirements of Rules 6.2.1(2), 6.3.4(1), 6.3.5(1), and 6.3.5(3).
Pursuant to Rule 1.9.1, the Technical Revision shall be accompanied by the appropriate filing fee of $216.
Inspection Contact Address
Emery Lynn Olin
Bridal Veil Construction, LLC
19100 Highway 550
Ridgway, CO 81432
Enclosure: four photographs taken during the inspection
ec w/enclosure: Russ Means, DRMS GJFO
Page 2 of 2
