0
September 1, 2015
Mr. Michael Cunningham Via FEDEX
Environmental Protection Specialist TRK 7743 4438 7899
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: CEMEX Lyons Mine Permit M-1977-208
Technical Revision No.12 Revised Groundwater Monitoring Plan ✓
Second Quarter 2015 Monitoring Data
Dear Mr. Cunningham:
RECEIVED
III Sr -r' u Z ZU15
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION,
MINING AND SAFETY
This letter transmits surface water and groundwater data associated with the sampling of cement kiln dust disposal
area (C -Pit). The report includes data from the C -Pit ponded water and related groundwater monitoring for the second
quarter of 2015, covering the reporting period April 1, 2015 to June 30, 2015. Table 1 presents data for the last four
quarters.
For the second quarter compliance monitoring, water samples were collected on June 4, 2015 from the CEM-oo1 and
CEM 004 groundwater monitoring wells, and from the C -Pit ponded water. Inspection of CEM-oo5 on May 29, 2015
indicated that this compliance well did not produce any water.
The samples collected from C -Pit ponded water and groundwater wells were analyzed for pH, chloride, sulfate, total
dissolved solids (TDS), selenium, and thallium. The reported pH data is based on the pH analysis performed at the time
of sample collection, in the field (Table 1). The measured pH at CEM -o04 was within the target levels prescribed by TR -
12 as shown on Table 1. The analytical results for chloride, sulfate, total dissolved solids (TDS), selenium, and thallium in
June 4, 2015 samples were also within the target levels prescribed by TR -12 as shown on Table 1.
In addition, a Stiff Diagram of the groundwater cation/anion data from CEM -004 compared to go% of the average
cation/anion concentration in C -Pit is provided in Figure 1 for reference. As shown in Figure 1, the cation/anion signature
for CEM -004 continues to be distinctly different from C -Pit, indicating that there is no evidence of C -Pit leakage into the
groundwater represented by well CEM -o04 -
Calcium
Magnesium
Potassium
Sodium
Bicarbonate
(as CaCO3)
Carbonate
Chloride
Sulfate
ae.a-eons
Figure t: Second Quarter 2015 Cation/Anion Data for CEM -o04 compared to the
TR -12 C -Pit Monitoring and Trigger Parameters.
