A value of
8.55 was recorded, with the limit being 8.5. This was most likely the result of algae build up in our
lower lagoon. Algae growth is known to increase pH in ponds. In reviewing my field notes I see
that after this high pH value, all subsequent readings were below the 8.5 threshold through July.
There has been no discharge yet during the month of August. Duckweed also builds up during
warmer weather, and covered most of the tops of our lagoons. This stops sunlight from
penetrating into the lagoon, and algae growth is reduced, thereby resulting in a drop of pH values.
I've recently heard of a biodegradable product called Biocide that has been used to control algae
growth at golf site ponds, and other public park ponds. We may check into this product and use it
in the future.
If you have any questions, please contact me directly at (970) 870-2750.
Best Regards,
Brian A.
