August 11, 2015 C-2009-087/Peabody Sage Creek Mine JLE <br />Drainage — Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18: <br />Ponds 2, 3, 4, POCOCO Pond, Upper Sump and Lower Sump were holding water and discharging. The <br />embankments of the applicable ponds were vegetated and stable. The primary and emergency spillways (if <br />present) were clear and functional. <br />• Culvert 27 is 60 to 70% full of sediment and needs to be cleared out. According to Mr. Cowman, a <br />backhoe will be coming out to the site within a week of this inspection and the culvert will be cleared out. <br />The following maintenance items were noted during the June 2015 inspection: <br />• Culvert 59A's outlet is 1/2 full of sediment and should be cleaned out. <br />o This item remains outstanding and will need to be addressed. <br />• Several rodent holes were observed in the streamside embankment of the shop diversion ditch. <br />Appropriate rodent control techniques should be implemented and the embankment will need to be <br />repaired. <br />o This item remains outstanding and will need to be addressed. <br />• At the intersection of SIIPM-6a and SIIPM-6 drainages, the channel is eroding and appears to have blown <br />through a check dam. This check dam should be repaired to help stabilize this area. <br />o This area was observed with Mr. Cowman. It does not appear any recent deposition has occurred <br />at this location and the vegetation surrounding the area has stabilized the channel. It does not <br />appear this check dam needs to be repaired at this time. <br />• Culvert SC -26 is half full of sediment at the inlet and needs to be cleaned out. <br />o This issue has been addressed. <br />• Rip -rap has sloughed off the erosion control liner along portions of the SIIPM-6 channel <br />o This item remains outstanding and will need to be addresses. <br />GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLIANCE: <br />The mine remains idle and no mining is occurring. <br />Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1 <br />Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1 <br />Page 3 of 10 <br />
