aquifers. In intermittent streams such as Foidel and Middle Creeks, stream flows and ground water levels in <br />adjacent areas decline rapidly following spring runoff. Since the alluvial aquifers are in direct hydraulic <br />communication with the stream system, reductions in ground water levels and loss of base stream flows result in <br />concurrent depletion of the limited volume of groundwater retained in alluvial aquifers. <br />Saturated Backfill <br />Recharge to backfilled areas at surface mines occurs through direct infiltration of rainfall and snowmelt. A detailed <br />discussion of recharge, flow and discharge in the backfilled areas adjacent to the Foidel Creek Mine is included in <br />Exhibit 35, Backfill Hydrologic Evaluation. <br />EMD (Panels 2 Right through 6 Right)(PR97 -04) <br />A spring and seep survey was conducted during 1996 for the EMD. Table 9A, EMD Spring Locations, provides the <br />locations of each spring to the nearest quarter section. Tables 9B through 9m provide flow and water quality data for <br />each of the springs. <br />The flow data, except for Spring 586277, show discharges less than or equal to 0.0181 cfs (8.1 gpm). Maximum flow <br />from Spring 586277 was reported as 0.0392 cfs (18.6 gpm). Typically, the springs flow less than 0.011 cfs. Given the <br />limited flows from these springs, no further monitoring is proposed. <br />(2) Surface Water Information <br />(a) Surface water information shall be provided, including the name of the watershed which will receive <br />water discharges from the permit area, the location of all surface water bodies such as streams, lakes, ponds, and <br />springs, the location of any water discharge into any surface body of water, and descriptions of surface draining <br />systems insufficient to identify, in detail, the seasonal variations in water quanti and quality within the proposed <br />permit and adjacent area. <br />(b) Surface water information shall include: <br />(i) Minimum, maximum, and average flows which identify critical low flow and peak <br />discharge rates of streams sufficient to identify seasonal variations; and <br />(ii) Water quality data from surface waters in, discharging into, or which will receive <br />flows from surface or ground water from affected areas within the proposed permit area, sufficient to identify seasonal <br />variations water quality sampling and laboratory analysis will be conducted in accordance with 2.03.3 (4) and shall <br />include: <br />(A) Total dissolved solids or electrical conductivity corrected to 25 centigrade <br />(specific conductance); <br />(B) Total suspended solids in milligrams per liter; <br />(C ) Acidity <br />(D) pH; <br />(E) Total and dissolved iron in milligrams per liter; <br />(F) Total manganese in milligrams per liter; and <br />(G) Such other information as the Division, for good cause shown, determines is <br />TR13 -83 2.04 -29 11/03/14 <br />
