• inherent sediment control. Runoff from downstream embankment slopes will
be effectively limited by the semi-arid climate, minimal slope angles and
revegetation so that no additional sediment control will be necessary.
EFCI has developed an ongoing pond maintenance program designed to ensure
continued safe and effective operation of all ponds. Maintenance includes
mowing of any vegetation which interferes with inspection or maintenance,
removal of any combustible materials other than dry vegetation, repair of
minor surface erosion, removal of debris from ditches, culverts and outlet
structures, and any necessary preventive maintenance or repair of
discharge structures or monitoring equipment.
In addition to periodic pond maintenance, all impoundments, embankments,
inlet and outlet ditches, discharge structures, and other related pond
components will be inspected on a regular basis to identify any
significant erosion, detect potential structural problems, note any
• hazardous conditions, and confirm continuing effective operation. All
ponds will be inspected on at least a quarterly basis and inspection
reports will be prepared, submitted and filed in compliance with
applicable regulations.
EFCI has no plans and does not currently anticipate any future
modifications to existing impoundments or pond embankments. In addition,
there are no plans for future construction of any additional ponds. If
changes in mine plans or effected areas dictate the necessity for
additional sedimentation control structures, EFCI will evaluate
requirements, complete the necessary designs, and submit the designs for
CMLRD review and approval prior to initiating any construction work.
4.05.10 UNDERGROUND MINE ENTRY AND ACCESS DISCHARGE
The Southfield mine workings have progressed down dip from the outcrop on
both the Red Arrow and Jack O'Lantern seams toward the axis of the
• Chandler Creek Syncline. With ongoing dewatering there is no potential
for gravity discharge of water from the mine.
