Mr. Michael Cunningham
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety RECEWQ'
1313 Sherman St. Room 215
Denver CO, 80203 AUG 12 2015
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
This is a Letter of Objection MINING AND SAFETY
Hello, my name is Adam Guthrie and I would like to Object to the permit application for
the Sullivan Aggregate Pit. The mine is located in Section 32, Township 9 South, Range
77 West of the (6h) Colorado Principal Meridian in Park County, File No. M-2015-017.
I recently met with Mr. Sullivan and had some conversations with him about his plans for
his operation.
My first concern, Natural surroundings. The Middle Fork of the South Plate River is a
Major tributary to nature and tourism in Colorado. Too many mishaps have already
occurred from improper mining near our cherished rivers and streams, how many more
times can this Eco system endure abuse from dumping, crossing, and changing the lay of
what nature has made?
My Second concern, Hours of Operation. His statement included that he would operate
from 9-9:30 to 4:30 pm on week days and minimally on the weekends. I live adjacent to
the property noted for permit and he has not been operating within his stated time frames.
He has been operating well beyond 7:30 pm most nights during the week. In some cases,
he has operated beyond 9 pm with no lights or security concerns.
My Third concern, Noise. The noise from mining is quiet loud. Machines are in constant
use and must be used for the process of materials and with hours of operation Exceeding
normal hours of daily business, past mines have caused many hours of lost sleep,
unneeded turmoil for neighboring animals and undesirable living conditions for home
owners both current and new.
My Fourth concern, Property values. I was made aware that when I purchased my home
that I was in deed near a mining permitted area. This is understandable, but in operations
with guidelines allowing for residential living allowed, I am confused as to how laws
passed in the late 1800's and early 1900's are still present in todays' world, it seems that
residential consideration is to the wayside and Mining is allowed to take when and what
they want for the good of themselves, not the Better good of the many. This type of
practice reduces the value of properties surrounding mines throughout Park County and
Colorado as a whole.
In conclusion, I would like to say that mining is in our community heritage. I embrace
mining and its benefits for the whole. I am not trying to stop mining, I am only trying to
