PERMIT #: P-2009-007
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: MAC
INSPECTION DATE: June 25, 2015
OBSERVATIONS
The inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of the Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
(Division) and Amy Titterington and Kelsa Warner of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS). The Prospector was not
present for the inspection. The Golddigger I site is located on Beaver Creek approximately 5 miles northwest
of Fairplay, Colorado. The prospecting operation is occurring on an unpatented claim on the north side of
Beaver Creek in the Pike National Forest.
No prospecting was occurring at the time of the inspection and it appeared that the last activity at the site
occurred last season. All of the equipment which the Division observed during the last inspection has been
removed from the site. The Prospector has partially backfilled the trench; however, topsoil has not been
replaced over the disturbed area. The Prospector informed the Division in writing that the topsoil stockpile
was seeded at the conclusion of prospecting activities last year. The Division did not observe any vegetative
growth on the topsoil stockpile, but the stockpile appeared to be stable and was protected with silt fencing. In
addition, the Prospector has placed silt fencing between the disturbed area and the edge of Beaver Creek. The
silt fencing adjacent to the creek is no longer anchored into the ground and therefore would allow sediment to
enter into Beaver Creek. The Division did not see any evidence that erosion was occurring at this site.
However, the failure to maintain erosion control at the site has been cited as a problem; please see the first
page of this report for additional information.
Upon exiting the site, the Division discovered the Prospectors gate had been removed and was in the middle
of Beaver Creek. The gate was removed and placed on the north bank of Beaver Creek. It shall be the
Prospector's responsibility to re -install the gate across the access road.
The Division and the USFS hold a financial warranty in the amount of $4,307.29, which is adequate to
complete reclamation.
This concluded the inspection.
