PERMIT #: M-1978-327
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: July 24, 2015
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection of the Kauffman Pit M1978-327 conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS at
the request of the permittee. DRMS met Frank and Mary Kauffman of Kauffman and Sons at the site office at
approximately 0930. Also present was permittee consultant Dan Giroux of Terramax. The site entrance is
located off the east side of Larimer County Road 9E approximately % mile north of Highway 402 in Larimer
County. Access to the permit area inspected required travel through the adjacent commercial operations, so
DRMS accompanied Mr. Kauffman to view the permit area.
The site was extensively flooded during the fall 2013 flood event; however the breeches in the reservoir
banks, and other damage within this permit caused by the flooding, have been effectively repaired at this
time.
It was noted during this inspection that all mining activity has been completed in the permit area, and that
reclamation also appears to have been completed. Areas of exposed groundwater have been backfilled to less
than the pre -1981 exposed area to comply with SEO requirements. The grading and revegetation of the
southeastern permit area has been completed, and in fact, this area has been cut for hay twice this season.
As approved in TR06, a portion of the industrially zoned area in the south-central part of the permit is still
active as a concrete and asphalt recycling area, and two of the backfilled areas are being utilized as equipment
storage lots/site support areas.
No compliance issues were noted during this inspection.
