1.0 Step One: Test Plots <br />The first step is to lay out three half -acre test plots by mid-August 2015. The purpose of the test plots is <br />to see which of three typical amendment recommendations work the best on the poor site soils. Each <br />test plot will be tilled, have amendments applied, and be drill seeded with 60 pounds per acre of triticale <br />(wheat x rye hybrid). Triticale tends to grow in many soil conditions that are often considered unsuitable <br />for native species, and will therefore be utilized to test the suitability of the soil for plant growth. <br />The following amendment options will be used for the test plots: <br />Test Plot 1: 3500 lbs/acre Biotic Earth and 2000 lbs/acre Richlawn 3-6-3 organic fertilizer with <br />mycorrhizae and humates <br />Test Plot 2: 4000 lbs/acre ProGanics and 2000 lbs/acre Richlawn 3-6-3 organic fertilizer with <br />mycorrhizae and humates <br />Test Plot 3: 2000 lbs/acre Richlawn 3-6-3 organic fertilizer with mycorrhizae and humates <br />Before the triticale in the test plots produces seed heads, it must be mowed or disced into the soil so <br />that it doesn't regenerate itself. <br />2.0 Step Two: Temporary Seeding <br />Once the triticale in the test plots has established, we will proceed with Step 2. This could take place as <br />early as Fall 2015, or as late as Spring 2016. Step 2 includes reviewing and inspecting the site to see <br />which test plot produced the best growth of triticale. The entire site will be amended based on the test <br />plot results and seeded with triticale either in Fall 2015 or Spring 2016, depending on when test plot <br />growth is achieved. Before the triticale produces seed heads, it must be mowed or disced into the soil so <br />that it doesn't regenerate itself. <br />3.0 Step Three: Permanent Seeding <br />Step three will begin in the fall of 2016. The native seed mix will be inter -seeded into the triticale <br />stubble, or drilled and mulched if the triticale is disced into the soil. The native seed mix will be used on <br />all areas except shrub islands. It has been our experience that when grasses and shrubs are planted <br />together, the grasses outcompete the shrubs. A plan showing shrub islands will be provided, and these <br />areas will only receive a hand -broadcasted application of shrub seed. These islands will be 0.25 acre in <br />size, and there will be 8 total scattered throughout the site.
