OF RECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
Clear Creek County is very interested in the proposed mining activity described in this Notice of Intent.
The property identified in the application is in a high mountain basin (the Waldorf Basin) and is quite
complex. It is an environmentally sensitive area, part of the source water area for the Town of
Georgetown's municipal water supply, a high mountain basin within a historic mining district and an area
very popular with recreational users. It has a mix of ownership — USFS and private mining claims (some
held by private parties, others held by Clear Creek County). There is a network of historic roads plus an
old railroad right of way. The claims referenced in the NOI are appropriately zoned for mining activity,
and they are in close proximity to the Santiago Mill (a contaminated site on USFS land). For all of these
reasons Clear Creek County is very interested in activity in the area. We offer the following comments
for your consideration:
1. The NOI is internally inconsistent.
a. See page 2, Section I, item 11: Land Ownership "Private" and
page 3, item K: Land Management Agency "United States Department of Agriculture,
Forest Service"
b. See page 3, item L: I did not find the notice to the USFS attached to this NOI
c. See page 3, item 111. 10: "Drilling & Blasting" is identified as one of the prospecting
methods to be used, and
page 6, Item W.9: "No drilling will be conducted during this permitted time."
d. See page 3,item 111. 10: Trenching is identified as one of the prospecting methods to be
used, and
Page 4, item 11: "No trenches or ponds will be constructed."
2. Has prospecting already commenced? See page 3, item I1I.8: "Commencement 10/01/2012"
"Honoring Our Past, While Designing Our Future"
a
