Hays
Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety
1313 Sherman St, # 215
Denver, CO 80215
Dear Peter;
RE: May 8, 2015 Inspection for M-2004-017, Kattenburg Pit
Corrective actions response
307-634-2300 Fax: 307-634-2310
This letter is includes the items needed to address the 4 corrective actions noted in your
Inspection Report dated May 26, 2015.
Backfilling and Grading:
Backfilling and grading is in progress. At this time the 25 foot setback has been
reestablished and sloping is underway. Attached are 6 photos showing the rebuilt setback
and filling as it stands as of July 6, 2015. The photos also show a landscape/ sight berm
that was placed along the east side to lessen impacts to the neighbors to the east. The
slopes are approximately 1.5h to 1 v but with the amount of work left Granby Sand and
Gravel will need a little more time to complete the 3h to IV sloping required. Willits
Company requests, based on that most of the work is completed, that we be granted a 30
day extension to complete the 3:1 sloping on the problem area. This would move the
correction date from 7/25/15 to 8/25/15. We believe that final sloping will be completed
before this date and will provided photos showing the work when complete.
Hydrologic Balance/ Wash Pond
Attached are 2 photos taken July 1, 2015 showing the pond being backfilled and the
completed job. Two foot plus of fill was placed on the wash pond area. This was a wash
pond that may have collected stormwater runoff this spring, but in the past we purchased
water to placed in this lined pond to use for washing. In the future a second pond will be
built in such a way so it does not collect stormwater or intercept the water flowing thru
the gravel. Water placed in it will come from water purchased from a source adjudicated
for industrial uses. The stormwater will be routed to an unlined basin where it will soak
into the ground before 72 hours.
There is no groundwater on this site. There is some seepage of water from the gravel
due to snow melt that travels thru the gravel and in the past has formed springs along
Plant Location:
460 South Main
1807 East Fox Farm Road
1830 County Road 60
West Polo Ranch Road
Alma, CO 80420
Cheyenne, WY 82007
Granby, CO 80446
Cheyenne, WY 82001
Phone:
719-836-0300
307-634-2300
970-887-0110
307-634-2300
Fax:
719-836-0400
307-634-2310
970-887-0220
307-634-2310
Cell:
719-839-1201
307-286-8258
970-531-2675
307-286-4490
