COLORADO
Division of Water Resources
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 821
Denver, CO 80203
RECEIVED
2 2015
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION,
-rte' MINING AND SAFETY
Response to Reclamation Permit Application Amendment Consideration
DATE: July 22, 2015
TO: Tyler V. O'Donnell, Environmental Protection Specialist
CC: Division 1 Office, District 2 Water Commissioner
FROM: Joanna Williams, P. 0
RE: Pit 29, Permit No. -M-1980-183 ,(AM -02) Amendment
Operator: Brannan Sand and Gravel
Contact: Brannan Sand and Gravel - 303-534-1231
Section 35, Twp 1 South, Rng 67 West, 6th P.M., Adams County
CONDITIONS FOR APPROVAL
Brannan Sand and Gravel requested an amendment to AM02 to the application for Pit 29,
Permit no. M1980-183. The purpose of this amendment is alleviate ground water mounding at
the connection point between Pit 29 and the Stagecoach Stop Pit (M1983-067) by the
installation of a French drain along the south portion of the north cell of Pit 29 and along the
northern portion of the Stagecoach Stop Pit. The AM -02 previously contemplated the
installation of a French drain on the upgradient (south) side of Pit 29. The site was then
amended to a location north on the Pit 29 property. The amendment now seeks a new route
that will take the drain northward along the west side of Pit 29 then under Brighton Road.
Prior to the construction of the French drain the operator is required to submit to the State
Engineer's Office a Notice of Intent to Construct a Dewatering Well (Form GWS -62). All
ground water pumped from the French drain (dewatering well) shall not be used for any
beneficial purposes and must be discharge to the stream system without consumptive use,
including evaporation losses. The operator will need to obtain a well permit if the French
drain (dewatering wet[) will be in place for more than one year after construction. Upon
completion of the ground water mitigation, the operator must plug the French drain in
accordance with Rule 16 of the Water Well Construction Rules.
The applicant may contact the State Engineer's Office with any questions.
1313 Sherman Street, Room 821, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3581 F 303.866.3585 www. water. state. co. us I
