The Mill is the property of
the USFS and sits on an unpatented mill site claim directly
in front of the adit to Santiago Mine 1. In addition to the Mill itself (which is still fully equipped), this site
contains significant remnants of early 18th century mining in the area. It is a major recreation destination. The
road to the mine opening passes through this important historic site. It is also our understanding that the USFS
owns the adit. The Commission has organized the Santiago Mill Stewards, a group of over 40 citizens , who
monitor the Mill on weekends to interpret history and discourage vandalism.
It is our recommendation that all measures to taken to protect this asset and not improve the road. If you have
questions about the Commission or Stewards please contact me at 7202017161 or via email.
Thank you
Cynthia Neely
Volunteer Coordinator
Historic District Public Lands Commission
Sent from my iPhone
JUL 212015
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
https:nmail.googlVcom/mail/u/0/?ui=2&i k=3ald83e556&view=pt&search=i nbox&th=14eb31e3108959f8&si m 1=14eb31 e3108959f8 1/1
