Here is the basis for that statement. According to the drilling
plan included with TR46 a nitrogen unit rated at 1500 scfm will be used to provide an inert atmosphere.
The s in scfm designates standard atmospheric pressure which is 14.7 psi. If down the hole hammer drilling
is utilized the hammer will require approximately 1000 cfm at 350 psi gas supply. The nitrogen unit would
only furnish 63 cfm of nitrogen at 350 psi and the remaining 937 cfm will be air; the gas mixture supplied to
the down the hole drill hammer with be approximately 80.3% nitrogen and 19.7% oxygen. Actual nitrogen
concentrations will probably be less if the nitrogen unit only produces approximately 95% nitrogen purity
and if the output is derated because of the site elevation of 6234 feet.
While the explosive range of methane is quoted to be 5 to 15% at standard atmospheric pressure, the
pressure will be far higher with a down the hole hammer, and the explosive range of methane will be much
wider (Zabetakis, 1965).
Doug Corley
https:Hm ai I .googl e.com/m ai I/u/0/?ui= 2&i k=e29129fcb5&view= pt&search= i nbox&th=14e97e635e7c555c&si m l=14e97e635e7c555c 1/1
