Box 426 <br />Georgetown, CO 80444 <br />RE: Santiago Mine; DRMS File No. P-2015-016; Receipt of Comments <br />Dear Mr. Hale, <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) is in receipt of your correspondence dated <br />July 9, 2015 in which you inform the Division that the proposed Notice of Intent to Conduct Prospecting <br />(NOI) for the Santiago Mine is within the watershed protection area for the Town of Georgetown. In <br />addition, the Town of Georgetown has requested that any approval of the NOI for the Santiago Mine be <br />approved upon the condition that the prospector obtains the appropriate Watershed Protection Permit. <br />All NOI applications are subject to the requirements of Rule 3.1.6, which ensures that all prospecting is <br />done in compliance with applicable federal and Colorado water quality laws and regulations, including <br />statewide water quality standards and site-specific classifications and standards adopted by the Water <br />Quality Control Commission. Furthermore, the Terms and Conditions for Prospecting Operations requires <br />prospectors to conduct their operations in such a manner as to comply with all applicable local, state and <br />federal air and water quality regulations, which would include local watershed permits. The Division <br />appreciates your comments and understands the importance of protecting the sources, supply, quantity, <br />quality, delivery, storage and distribution of water serving the Town of Georgetown. Your comments will <br />be forwarded to the prospector and the Division will consider them during the review of the NOI <br />application. <br />The submitted comments were received within the designated public comment period. Therefore, <br />pursuant to Rule 5.1.3(d)(I) the Division shall send notice of its decision on the NOI application.
