0 2.04.4(1) <br />(1) A description of the cultural and historic resources listed or eligible for listing <br />on the National Register of Historic Places and significant known <br />archaeological sites within all areas proposed or likely to be affected by <br />surface activities is presented in Volume VI, Cultural Resources. <br />Cultural resource field work was performed during the third and fourth weeks <br />of September 1995. The cultural resource survey reports that one prehistoric <br />site and two isolated finds were recorded but were evaluated as not eligible <br />for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. <br />The town site of Bowie, site 5DT122, although heavily disturbed is a historic <br />site. All that remains is the mine office, the Bowie house garage, and two <br />mine garages. According to the Cultural Resources Inventory Report (page <br />23 - 24), the four remaining buildings are eligible for listing on the National <br />Register of Historic Places. Therefore, these four buildings should be <br />preserved through methods that meet the Historic American Buildings Survey <br />and /or the Historic American Engineering Record documentation standards. <br />The King Mine site, associated with the town site of Bowie, site 5DT1053, <br />has been heavily disturbed. The remaining buildings include a hoist house, <br />power plant, mule barn, powder magazines and sales house. The power <br />plant and hoist house are community landmarks. According to the Cultural <br />Resources Inventory Report (page 22), the power plant and hoist house are <br />eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, <br />these two buildings should be preserved through methods that meet the <br />Historic American Buildings Survey and /or the Historic American Engineering <br />Record documentation standards. <br />By letter dated July 18, 1996, the SHPO recommended the home garage at <br />5DT122 and the other buildings at 5DT122 and at 5DT1053 be recorded to <br />Historic American Buildings Survey /Historic American Engineering Record <br />(NABS /HAER) Level II standards. The level II Documentation of Structures <br />is presented in Volume VI, Cultural Resources. <br />A file search, presented in Volume VI, was made through the Preservation <br />Office of the Colorado Historical Society for the following described area: <br />Township 13 South, Range 91 West, 6 P.M., Sections: 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 14, <br />15, 16.
