June 15, 2015
Annual Report
LAKE COUNTY
Public Works
P.O. Box 952
1200 Hazel Street
Leadville, CO 80461
Phone: 719-486-0259
Fax: 719-486-8479
Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Re: Permit No. M-1977-459
Lake County Gravel Pit
Anniversary Date: July 8, 2015
Gentlemen;
Enclosed, please find the payment of $791.00 for the annual fee for the above referenced
permit.
The activity in the calendar year 2014 consisted of mining and crushing approximately 18,000
tons of road base material during the time period January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014. The
material mined consisted of taking down material on existing disturbed areas as shown on
enclosed map and cutting down the slope on the south east side of the pit. No new areas of
disturbance occurred during this time period.
Reclamation for the year 2014 consisted of stockpiling existing top soil from the pit area to the
east side of the pit. Also in 2014, we have continued our program of stockpiling top soil from
outside sources, such as new road construction around the County in anticipation of future
reclamation work.
During the year 2014, since there were not any new areas of disturbance Lake County
continued to accumulate top soil from outside sources. It is expected that there will not be any
new disturbances 2015. All mining activities will be within previously disturbed areas of the
existing pit. Production for the calendar year January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2015 will
be between 20,000 and 25,000 tons of road base material.
As in the past, Lake County also uses this mine site and crushing equipment to recycle asphalt
that has been removed from County and City roads. This practice while not a mining activity has
been in effect for 10 plus years. The crushed asphalt is then re -incorporated into new
construction projects as well as on existing roadways throughout the County.
Please contact Brad Palmer, Public Works Director at 719-486-0259 should you have any
questions.
Si rely,
Brad Palm r, Directo
Lake Coun y Public Works
