Cost Estimate far Reclamation
The maximum area in the Carper Pit #2 Pit that could require seeding is 42.7 acres.
A cover crop would be established after topsoil is replaced. After the cover is established
the grass will be planted as recommended by the local Natural Resource Conservation Service.
The cost units below already include labor and fuel.
The cover crop, manuring, and grass seeding cost were obtained from the
Natural Resource Conservation Service and have been based on Conservation Reserve
Program costs. The other unit costs were obtained from a local contractor who is
equipped to perform reclamation if Tim Carper were to default on the reclamation plan.
Carper Pit #2
Task
Backfill and Grade
to 3:1 slopes
Replace Topsoil
TractodSpeedy Mover
Revegethte Site
Volumes Uri is
86.7 Hours
251.1 Hours
Cover crop 42.7 Acres
Grass seeding 42.7 Acres
Seed 358.68 Lbs.
(42.7 acres x 8.4 # PLS/Acre)
Tractor/Speedy Mover 2 Hours
Dozer 2 Hours
TOTAL
Unit Item Cost
$115.00 $9,970.50
$75.00 $18,832.50
$45.00 $1,921.50
$45.00 $1,921.50
$8.70 $3,120.52
$75.00 $150.00
$115.00 $230.00
$36,146.52
While reclamation costs are calculated on the entire expanded acreage, the mining plan is to open
one tract at a time. Only as Tract 3 is opened should the financial warranty be increased. Then the
requirment should only be on the previous 9.9 acres (Tract 2) and the newly opened Tract 3 (6.35 acres).
Tim plans to begin reclamation of the previously mined tracts as he opens a new tract to minimize
the amount of financial warranty requirement involved.
