PERMIT #: M-1977-348
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: June 30, 2015
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted by DRMS representative Eric Scott in response to a request from Holcim.
DRMS was accompanied on this inspection by Holcim representative Mike Toelle. No mining has occurred on
site for quite some time, and the site is in final reclamation. Ongoing reclamation issues at this time include
gound-water monitoring and reporting near the CKD disposal areas, correspondence with SEO regarding the
surface water on site in mined areas, and continued revegetation and weed control efforts.
During the inspection it was noted that the reclamation landscaping appeared to be stable and that vegetation
was establishing well, although it was still thin in some areas. However, some variability in vegetation density
would be expected over an area this size. Some areas of noxious weeds were observed, (bindweed, cheatgrass,
thistle, dalmation toadflax) and some nuisance species such as Colorado sweet clover were present in larger
areas. These species will need to continue to be eradicated or controlled until the site is released. There were
some areas (such as east facing bank on south pond) where vegetation has not yet been established and that may
need to be re -soiled and/or reseeded to meet reclamation standards.
As noted on the first page of this report, the issue of the areas of surface water existing within the permit area
due to the configuration of the land after mining of the limestone beds is still present. Holcim has provided
DRMS with documentation of their continuing effort to reach an appropriate resolution on this issue with the
State Engineers Office (SEO). At this time Holcim is attempting to schedule an on-site meeting with
representatives of the SEO for early August, to try to determine what the appropriate long-term resolution to the
issue will be.
No other issues were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Mike Toelle
Holcim (US) Inc.
3500 Highway 120
Florence, CO 81226
