West Elk Mine 2014 Annual Hydrology Report 1 <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br />This Mountain Coal Company, LLC (MCC) West Elk Mine 2014 Annual Hydrology <br />Report (AHR) summarizes the hydrologic monitoring activities and pertinent data <br />associated with the West Elk Mine mining operations for the Water Year 2014 (WY <br />2014), October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2014, in accordance with the Colorado <br />Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (CDRMS) Permit C-1980-007. <br />1.1 Overview of Mining Operations <br />The West Elk Mine is an underground coal mining operation that produces bituminous <br />coal and conducts other mining activities including surface crushing, washing, <br />conveying, and load -out operations. MCC has utilized two chemicals in their treatment <br />process: aluminum sulfate for flocculation in sedimentation ponds and sodium <br />hypochlorite for drinking water treatment. <br />During WY 2014, mining was completed in the E -seam longwall panel E4 from crosscut <br />28 up to crosscut 3, and in panel E5 from crosscut 73 up to crosscut 28. Development <br />mining was completed in the E6 headgate from crosscut 9 to crosscut 58. The E -South <br />Mains to crosscut 83 were partially completed, and the turn -ins for the longwall panel E6 <br />gateroads were also completed. There was no mining in the B -seam in WY 2014 (MCC, <br />2015). Mining progress in WY 2014 is highlighted in green on Maps 1 and 2. <br />June 2015 HydroGeo, Inc. <br />
