West Elk Mine 2014 Annual Hydrology Report 28
3.2.3.3 Spring G -28a
Spring G -28a is located in a north tributary to Gribble Gulch (Map 2). It is situated
above the northwest mine panels area. This spring issues from alluvium and is seasonal.
Flow usually occurs during the peak flow period and accumulates in a stock pond. This
spring has been monitored since 1978.
3.2.3.4 Spring G-31 (Decreed Spring #33)
Spring G-31 is located in Gribble Gulch above the east end of the Jumbo Mountain mine
panels area (Map 2). This spring issues from alluvium and flows into a small pond. It is
seasonal and flow usually occurs during wet spring conditions. The pond is often dry in
summer and autumn. This spring has been monitored since 1977.
3.2.3.5 Spring G-30
Spring G-30 is located in Gribble Gulch north of the Jumbo Mountain mine panels area
and west of the northwest mine panels area (Map 2). It issues from alluvium, but
measurable flow has not been observed since WY 2001. This spring has been monitored
since 1977.
3.2.3.6 Spring G-25 (Decreed Spring #22)
Spring G-25 is located in the Gribble Gulch drainage and is situated north of the Jumbo
Mountain mine panels area and west of the northwest mine panels area (Map 2). It issues
from alluvium and flows into a holding pond. This spring has perennial flow which
diminishes in late summer. This spring has been monitored since 1977.
3.2.3.7 Spring G-35 (Decreed Spring #18)
Spring G-35 is located on the north flank of Jumbo Mountain in an unnamed drainage
west of Gribble Gulch which is tributary to the North Fork (Map 2). This spring is
situated north of the Jumbo Mountain mine panels area. This spring issues from alluvium
and flows into a holding pond which has water during wet climatological cycles. This
spring has been monitored since 1993.
3.2.3.8 Spring G-49
Spring G-49 is located on the north flank of Jumbo Mountain, west of Gribble Gulch, in
an unnamed drainage tributary to the North Fork (Map 2). The spring is situated north of
the Jumbo Mountain mine panels area. Flow is perennial, but diminishes in the autumn.
This spring issues from alluvium, and has been monitored since 1995.
3.2.4 Springs above the E -Seam in the Minnesota Creek and
Dry Fork Drainage Basin
3.2.4.1 Spring J-4
Spring J-4 is located in East Gulch, East of Horse Gulch and is tributary to the Dry Fork
and Minnesota Creek (Map 2). This spring is situated above the SOD mine panels area.
This spring issues from alluvium, is seasonal, and flow is significantly reduced or dry in
late summer or autumn. Hydrologic monitoring at this spring began in 1981.
June 2015 HydroGeo, Inc.
