West Elk Mine 2014 Annual Hydrology Report 21
3.2 Spring and Seep Monitoring Program
In WY 2014 a total of 40 springs and seeps were monitored as part of the MCC
hydrologic monitoring program. The total number of sites monitored does not include
seep E14-1 which has not been monitored since it was abandoned in 2006, when it was
covered by drill -pad construction activities.
The spring and seep monitoring plan is divided into four general hydrologic categories
for discussion purposes:
• Springs and seeps in the North Fork drainage basin issuing from the strata
above the F -coal seam;
• Springs and seeps in the North Fork drainage basin issuing from strata in or
below the F -coal seam;
• Springs and seeps in the Jumbo Mountain area in the North Fork drainage
issuing from strata above the B -coal seam; and
• Springs and seeps in the Dry Fork drainage issuing from strata above the E -
coal seam.
The locations of the spring and seep monitoring stations are shown on Map 2. The
following discussion of monitored springs is presented according to the general
hydrologic categories described above and from upstream to downstream relative to the
mining area. A summary of the spring and seep monitoring program details is presented
in Table 5.
June 2015 HydroGeo, Inc.
