COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
June 30, 2015
Scott Cowman
Peabody Sage Creek Mine
P.O. Box 250
36600 Routt County Road 27
Hayden, Colorado 81639
RE: Peabody Sage Creek Mine; C-2009-087
2°d and 3'd Quarter 2012 Subsidence Report
Dear Mr. Cowman,
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) has reviewed the above referenced
report. In accordance with permit section 2.05.6(6), the Peabody Sage Creek Mining, LLC (PSCM)
committed to conducting a subsidence monitoring program that includes the inspection of the
underground workings. According to your e-mail, mining only occurred in the 2nd and 3rd quarter of 2012
and the mine is currently sitting idle. Also, the portals are sealed at this time. The 2nd and 3rd quarter
reports did not indicate any "Hazardous Conditions" (roof falls, pillar degradation, faults, or excessive
inflow) were observed. Given this, items 1 through 5 of PSCM subsidence monitoring requirements
appear to have been addressed. Other items listed in the monitoring requirements do not appear to be
necessary given the extent of mining with one exception discussed below.
Item No. 8 of the subsidence monitoring program indicates that the location and elevation of a concrete
footer of the high voltage distribution tower nearest each set of entries passing beneath the high voltage
lines will be surveyed at least one month prior to mining. The tower footer(s) will be surveyed each May
and October after mining beneath the tower. Is there any high voltage lines above the entries mined
during the 2nd and 3rd Quarter of 2012 with concrete footers? Is so, please submit the required monitoring
data.
Please note that according to the permit, subsidence monitoring reports are to be submitted semi-annually
if/when mining begins.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me at (303) 866-3567, extension 8120.
Sincerely,
1 L/U
Jared Ebert
Environmental Protection Specialist
OF COLO
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http://mining.state.co.us
John W.
