COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
June 15, 2015
Matthew Sprague
Sprague Stone LLC
116 Sprague Ave.
Berthoud, CO 80513
RE: Sprague Stone; DRMS File No. M-2015-006; Adequacy Review No. 2
Dear Mr. Sprague,
The Division has identified several other comments and questions that must be addressed prior to
the' Division's decision due date. Please be advised that if you are unable to satisfactorily
address any concerns identified in this review before the decision date, it will be your
responsibility to request an extension of the review period. If there are outstanding issues
that have not been adequately addressed prior to the end of the review period, and no
extension has been requested, the Division will deny this application.
1. The Applicant has stated the working decks are comprised of 20% rock overburden. Please
specify the volume of overburden in the working decks of the three areas to be quarried. This
information is required to calculate the financial warranty estimate. The volume of
overburden shall be specified as cubic yards.
2. The Applicant has stated that waste rock generated from the quarry operation will be
contained within the active quarry area and that no stockpiles will be needed. Please describe
how this material will be contained within the active quarry area. Presumably this material
will need to be placed around the perimeter of the excavation in order to excavate slabs of
sandstone. Until such time as the waste rock has been graded onto the mine face, the Division
must bond for the replacement of this material. The applicant must specify the total volume
of waste rock that will need to be replaced onto the mine face for all three areas to be
quarried. The volume of overburden shall be specified as cubic yards. In addition, specify
average volume of waste rock which would need to be replaced on a per acre basis. The
Division will use this information to calculate the financial warranty liability for future
mining phases.
3. The Applicant's response to the Division's preliminary adequacy review did not include full
sized copies of the Stormwater Management Plan Map or of the Stormwater Management
Detail Sheet. Please provide the Division with full sized copies of these documents as
requested.
of • cod
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http://mining.state.co.us I ' * i *
John W.
