June 11, 2015
CITY oFARUADA
UTILITIES DEPARTMENT
FACSIMILE: 720-898-7603 ♦ TDD: 720-898-7869
PHONE: 720-898-7760
Michael Cunningham
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Leyden Pit; Permit File No. M-1983-139; Technical Revision No. 3 (revision)
Reclamation Plan Technical Revision
Dear Mr. Cunningham:
In March, a Technical Revision request was submitted for the final reclamation plan for Leyden Pit,
Permit #M-1983-139. On May 8th, we received a response from you requiring additional information be
provided to grant the Technical Revision. The following is being provided and submitted for your
consideration.
Change in Future Use of the Leyden Pit:
The City of Arvada desires to construct a reservoir on the Leyden Pit property for future water storage
capacity. The 100 acre reservoir would essentially cover most of the area currently disturbed.
Additionally, the future Jefferson Parkway will be constructed through the northwestern corner of the
site, which is the remainder of the area currently disturbed.
All slopes will be graded 3H:1V or less; no slopes greater than 31-1:1V will remain.
The attached revised Reclamation Map is being provided to show that all slopes will be regraded to
3HAV or less. Regrading to 31-1:1V rather than 7HAV is proposed because this area will be the site of a
future water reservoir that will require a change in grade to accommodate the desired water capacity.
The small pond located southwest of the sediment ponds known as Coors Pond, remains as is.
We could not satisfy the requirement to obtain written documentation from the Office of the State
Engineer that they agree Coors Pond was exposed prior to January 1, 1981, in time for this Technical
Revision deadline of June 15th. This will need to be addressed in a later revision once documentation
from the State is obtained.
P.O. BOX 8101 ♦ 8101 RALSTON ROAD ♦ ARVADA, COLORADO ♦ 80001-8101
