Michael Cunningham
June 11, 2015
All internal access roads within the site will remain as is.
All internal roads have been depicted on the attached revised Reclamation Map. The roads are
necessary to access areas where site maintenance may needed or where water may be ponding. In
addition, an electrical distribution line exists in the center of the site bearing southeast to northwest
with an associated maintenance road that must remain.
Old sediment ponds will be backfilled or breached to achieve positive drainage.
Onsite sedimentation ponds have been depicted on the attached revised Reclamation Map. A total of
five ponds remain, all of which are located in the northeastern section of the disturbed area. The
farthest north pond will be breached, with the remaining four filled, or partially filled to achieve positive
drainage. With respect to reclamation of the breached pond, the sides and resultant channel will be
graded to not more than a 3H:1V slope. All disturbed areas will be seeded with the specified seed mix
proposed in this TRD. Sediment control will be used until vegetation is adequate.
Buffalo Brand Sharp's Drwland Pasture Mix seed is proposed for reclamation of the pit.
The current mine operator requested a seed mix that would be appropriate for the temporary
reclamation of this property and received a recommendation from the seeding company. This seed mix
is quick to provide a suitable ground cover to reduce the potential for erosion. Because much of this
area will be used for water storage, it is unlike many reclamation projects where rangeland is desired.
The temporary nature of the reclamation could allow for some deviation from the native seed mixes
that are more difficult to establish, but work exceedingly well for the long term.
We have attached a revised seed mix that may conform more to the native seed desired by the State. In
addition, the recommended seeding and broadcast rate is included. We propose to drill seed at 20
pounds per acre.
Growinp, medium such as topsoil will be installed 2" -- 4" in depth.
The post -mining land use for the area that is currently disturbed is a water reservoir. If the property
were to be used for rangeland, a more elaborate topsoil depth would be necessary. However, the
expense to double/triple the topsoil when the gravel mine will be filled with water is profound. We
request that a reduced topsoil requirement be approved in light of the temporary nature of the
vegetation and the proposed future use of this property as water storage.
