It was interesting to see some of the historical
documents and comments.
After reviewing the Midterm Permit Review No. 7 for the King Coal Mine dated February 18, 2015, and given the
small amount of surface disturbance planned for the project, I believe the impacts to wildlife will continue to be
minimal. I would suggest that at the time of surface reclamation that the woody shrub mix be increased as a
benefit to wildlife per the letter from Colorado Division of Wildlife dated May 4, 2006. Colorado Parks and Wildlife
(CPW) along with Natrual Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) can make recommendations on the particular
subspecies of Sage Brush and other woody plants that would be appropriate for the site. Other than that one
minor item, which has already been addressed in the May 4, 2006 letter, I see no need for a comment letter at
this time for the Midterm Permit Review..
What is the expected life span of the mine at this time based on current production levels and leases?
Thanks.
STEVE MCCLUNG
District Wildlife Manager, Durango West
Colorado Parks & Wildlife
Steve.
