2.05.4(2)(e)
The seed mixes for USDA -FS managed lands (Mixes 4, 4a and 5) and for BLM
managed lands (Mix 9) are grass dominated. Most of the disturbance on
Federal lands is associated with drill sites and roads. Therefore, reclamation
of the drill sites and roads will add additional areas to satisfy the grass forage
needs of wildlife.
Ten seed mixes will be used for the revegetation work, one for temporary soil
stabilization and nine for final reclamation purposes. The permanent mixes
include a set of core species which will be used and a set of optional species
which may be used depending on their availability and price at the time of
actual reclamation. Varieties are listed to assist the operator but may change
based on the recommendations of the seed company at the time of purchase.
Varieties that are best adapted to mine area will be selected. Seeding rates
that are listed are drill seed rates which will be doubled for areas that must be
broadcast seeded.
The first seed mix will be a soil stabilization mix used for the interim
reclamation of topsoil stockpiles, cut slopes and other disturbed surfaces
associated with the mine construction. This mix is listed below.
Seed Mix No. 1 - Soil Stabilization
Species Name (VARIETY)
Agropyron smithii (ARRIBA)
Elymus Ianceolatus
Bromus marginatus (BROMAR)
Festuca ovina (COVAR)
Medicago sativa (NOMAD)
Sphaeralcea coccinea
Common Name
Western wheatgrass
thickspike wheatgrass
Mountain Brome
Sheep fescue
Alfalfa
Scarlet globemallow
POUNDS PLS/
ACRE
3.3
2.1
4.0
0.5
1.7
0.2
The loadout cut slopes will be vegetated with the soil stabilization mix. Straw
mulch will be applied to the slopes as soon as possible after construction to
reduce run-off and sediment loss from the slopes.
The second seed mix will be used to revegetate the disturbed portions of the
upper and lower disturbed meadows. Two or more of the optional species will be
included in the seed mix at a rate of 10 PLS/ft2. The optional species that will be
selected will be at the operator's discretion.
TR -101 2.05-69 06/15
