Straw Wattle Sediment Control
As is seen on the final topography Map 2.05.4-1-3, portions of the Morgan property do not drain directly
to Pond 011. The Morgans have strongly expressed that they do not want collection ditches in these
areas since they will collect water and saturate the alfalfa, thus killing it. Also, the Morgans have
expressed that the center pivot will be difficult to operate across ditches. Instead, WFC has worked with
the Morgan family to agree on an alternate method of sediment control for these areas, which is a straw
wattle, as shown in the attached picture and specification sheet. This wattle would be installed in the
locations shown on Map 2.05.3(3)-1-2 to ensure that sediment control is provided without the use of
ditches. The wattles will be installed immediately after successful soil replacement according to the
permit.
Once vegetation is established on the irrigated area and erosion can be controlled by this vegetation, the
straw wattles will be removed when the requirements of Rule 4.05.2(2) are met and demonstrated to the
Division. Vegetation should be established rapidly since the area will have good soil, and will be seeded
with an initial cover crop of oats and irrigated.
Photo 1- Typical wattle Installation
Revised December 2014 JR -65) Attachment 2.05.3(3)-1-85
