Western Colorado has received a number of
spring storms this month, but the skies were clear and the temperature was mild.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge
Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring
4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Drainage Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8;
Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
• The North Fork of the Gunnison River was flowing at 1,330 cfs at the time of the inspection,
based on information available from the USGS Streamflow website (Photo 1).
• The sediment pond was holding water, to an elevation just below the primary spillway (Photo
2), which was closed. The water level in the pond appeared to be approximately equivalent
to the elevation of the adjacent river (Photo 3), indicating that infiltration from the river
rather than storm runoff may have been the source of the water in the pond.
• The treatment pond was full to its normal level (Photos 3 and 4), and brown -tinted water was
seeping from the lower parts of the landslide mass (Photo 5)
SLIDES and DAMAGE - Rule 4.12.
• The landslide over the former portal area did not show any signs of recent movement (Photo
6).
• At the top of the landslide were numerous fresh sandstone boulders which have broken away
from the sheer face above the slide mass (Photo 7).
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 8
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4 Page 2 of 7
