Brock Bowles
Page 5
May 26, 2015
4.24.4 Monitoring- The water monitoring plan is included in Tab 18 of the permit. It appears the
operator actively monitors surface water in Rapid Creek. As indicated above, surface disturbance from
the mine should not flow to Rapid Creek. Mine discharge is monitored at NPDES outfall 016 which
discharges to the Colorado River. It appears monitoring is conducted in accordance with Rule 4.24.4(2)
and (3). The operator projected that outfall 016 would discharge at 200-300 gpm with TDS at
approximately 1500 mg/1. It appears discharge from outfall 016 is within these approximations for 2010
to 2014. Between 2010 and 2014 on average the mine discharges 774.4 tons of TDS to the creek, about
.05% of the total TDS of the Colorado River. Water quality in the Colorado River stream/alluvium
aquifer may be slightly impacted by the operations at the mine but the ability to flood irrigate the AVF
will likely not be affected and sub -irrigation by alluvial groundwater is found to be marginal.
-No adequacy review items were identified.
