2
Whether or not you can locate this monitoring station, a temporary monitoring station should be
installed just below the mine road opposite (more or less) the location of monitoring station 2.
Within a few feet or yards of the road, the water should be shallow enough to install a staff gage,
set deep enough to allow measurement of two or three feet of water level decline as the area is
drained as planned. As the water level is lowered, the datum of this staff gage may need to be
adjusted downward to continue measuring declining water levels. When at some point the
original monitoring station can be found and accessed, the temporary staff gage can be replaced
with the rehabilitated equipment, i.e. monitor well. and staff gage of monitoring station 2.
Monitoring stations 6, 11, and 12 were not found during our April 30 field visit. Temporary
monitoring stations should be located and installed according to the procedure recommended for
monitoring station 2; when these stations are located as water levels recede, they can be replaced
or rehabilitated, as recommended for monitoring station 2. Monthly monitoring is recommended
for stations 6, 11, and 12.
Monitor well 7 is intact, fully operational, is currently being accessed for water level
measurements, and can be accessed to measure water levels at monthly intervals for both the
temporary and permanent monitoring plans.
