Mr. Tyler O'Donnell, Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety AL
May 18, 2015
Page 2 AGGREGATE
INDUSTRIES
provide maximum drainage and, if necessary, water will be pumped to achieve the initial
drainage goal.
Dr. Catherine Kraeger-Rovey of Water & Environmental Systems Technology, Inc. has
evaluated and made recommendations with regard to water level monitoring. In
accordance with Dr. Rovey's recommendations, a copy of which is enclosed, staff gauges
will be installed just below the mine road or Fulton Ditch road on AI's property more or
less opposite the vicinity of existing monitoring wells MW -2, MW -6, MW -11, and MW -
12, which we have not been able to locate. When areas around original monitoring wells
have drained sufficiently, existing wells will be located, rehabilitated and used for
continued monitoring; or, if unable to locate the original monitoring wells, shallow wells
and/or staff gauges will be established as nearly as possible to the original wells.
Data gathered during the temporary mitigation period will be evaluated and used to
establish drainage controls for the permanent mitigation plan that is required under
MLRB Board Order MV -2015-003. The monitoring data gathered during this temporary
period will be submitted with the technical revision for the permanent mitigation plan
together with the final well/staff gauge locations.
If you have any questions or require additional information regarding this technical
revision as proposed, please do not hesitate to call me at (970) 396-5252.
Very truly yours,
J-, ;&. &Va,
Connie N.
