Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) understands that there is
currently an active 39.4 acre gravel pit at this location and that this proposal is to amend the
existing Neat pit area by increasing the acreage by 27.5 acres for a total surface disturbance
of 66.9 acres. CPW also understands that there will be on site processing (crushing/screening)
of the mined sand and gravel.
On May 11, 2015 1 conducted an onsite review of the above proposed project. Although there
will be some loss of wildlife habitat associated with the gravel pit expansion as well as an
increased disturbance in the area due to vehicle traffic and general mining operations, these
impacts would be minimal and not significant to wildlife in the area. The area wilt be
reclaimed back to rangeland after the mining operations have been completed. Therefore,
CPW does not have any recommendations for mitigation or management practices for this
particular project.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this proposal.
