Mined Land Reclamation Board RECEIVED
Room 215
1313 Sherman Street MAY 5 2015
Denver, CO 80203
DIVISION OFRECLAMATION
May 11, 2015 MINING AND SAFETY
Dear Mined Land Reclamation Board,
This letter is written notice declaring the oppositiori'to the expansion of the existing
110 Permit. It is the mine known as the Dollerschell Pit (M-1986-0741. We oppose
this expansion for several reasons. When we originally purchased this home, we
were told that the area behind our home would stay as is. This was native grass and
a berm along the pit. With expansion we will have a large dirt berm 120 from our
back door, this will be an unsightly view. In its original state, there was not any
noise or pollution. Since its first expansion, there is now constant noise from
machinery as well as pollution. There is now a gigantic, 60 -foot cliff that poses a
danger to residents. This community was developed as a residential community and
the homeowners purchased their lots and built their homes based on that
knowledge. Now, Kym Schure is blatantly disregarding those agreements. As the
developer, Mr. Schure put in writing the intended use of these properties. As
residents, we know that the dirt being removed from this expanded pit is being sold
to Logan County and individuals for the purpose of profit. Why should our homes be
devalued for someone else's profit. Since the expansion, the soil has been disturbed
and the dirt now blows. If it is expanded even more, the erosion will be immense.
The last item that needs to be addressed is the effect that the expansion will have on
the wildlife. In the original Dollershell Pit, there are trees and a naturally wooded
area. This area is home to many forms of wildlife. There are nesting's of Golden and
Bald Eagles, and a variety of owls. Traffic through this area to the expansion pit
could destroy their natural habitat.
Please do not allow the expansion of this mine.
Sincerely,
vt Darrell and Shirley Smith
,q gM S
