I^
April 28, 2015
CITY of ARUADA
UTILITIES DEPARTMENT
FACSIMILE: 720-898-7603 ♦ TDD: 720 - 898 -7869
PHONE: 720 - 898 -7760
Michael Cunningham
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Permit #M- 1983 -139, Leyden Pit
Reclamation Plan Technical Revision
Dear Mr. Cunningham:
RECEIVE
MAY 0 i 201°
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
This letter serves as a request to allow the following revisions to the final reclamation plan for Leyden
Pit, Permit #M- 1983 -139. These changes are necessary as a result of conversations with Division
Inspector Peter S Hays during a November 21, 2013, inspection and due to the City of Arvada's
intention to construct reservoirs on the Leyden Pit property in the future for additional water storage
capacity.
The following revisions are proposed because of the temporary nature of the final reclamation:
• All slopes will be graded 3H:1V or less; no slopes greater than 3H:1V will remain.
• Old sediment ponds will be backfilled or breached to achieve positive drainage.
• All internal access roads within the site will remain as is.
• Growing medium such as topsoil will be installed 2" —4" in depth.
• Buffalo Brand Sharp's Dryland Pasture Mix seed is proposed for reclamation of the pit. A
description of the proposed seed mix is attached for your consideration.
In addition to the revisions noted above, we request that a small pond, which is located southwest of
the sediment ponds, known as Coors Pond, remains as is. According to the Colorado Department of
Natural Resources, Division of Water Resources' "General Guidelines for Substitute Water Supply Plans
for Sand and Gravel Pits" updated April 1, 2011, supporting information must be submitted that shows
"the extent and location of any ground water surface area exposed to the atmosphere prior to January 1,
1981." The attached 1980 aerial photography shows that this pond existed pre -law, prior to January 1,
1981.
,* AF & Report
No Violations
11.0.
